In 2009, the MVTA will offer express bus service to the Minnesota State Fair from both the Burnsville and Eagan Transit Stations. Service is operating on all 12 days of the State Fair from the Burnsville Transit Station. Weekdays, buses will first serve Burnsville High School (600 E. Highway 13), then the Transit Station. Weekends, service will be from the Burnsville Transit Station only.
Service is operating on the weekends and Labor Day only from the Eagan Transit Station. (Metro Transit will operate State Fair Express Bus Service from the Mall of America; the MVTA operates regular-route transit buses from Burnsville and Eagan to the Mall of America seven days per week.)
Weekday Buses (Monday through Friday except Labor Day)
Buses leave Burnsville High School/Burnsville Transit Station every hour from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Buses leave the fairgrounds bus area every hour from 12:00 noon to 12:00 midnight.
Weekend Buses (Saturday, Sunday, Labor Day)
Buses leave the Burnsville and Eagan Transit Stations every half hour from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Buses leave the fairgrounds bus area every half hour from 12:00 noon to 12:00 midnight.
Round-trip fares remain $5 for all riders age 5 and over; fares are free for children 4 and under. The round-trip fare is collected at the Burnsville High School/Burnsville and Eagan Transit Stations (initial boarding location), and no fare is collected on the return trip. For this reason, there are no one-way fares. Please note also that Stored Value Cards, 31-Day Passes, Metro Passes, GO-TO cards, and U-passes are NOT valid on State Fair services. Exact fare is required in the form of dollar bills and/or coins.
Read and Ride Day
Wednesday, Sept. 2 is "Read and Ride Day" at the State Fair, providing a State Fair Discount to those showing a valid library card. Midway rides feature reduced prices. The MVTA will piggyback onto this promotion and in conjunction with American Seating will provide round trip State Fair Express Bus Service rides for $2 on this day
State Fair admissions prices this year are as follows: Adults - $11; Seniors (65+) - $9; Children (5-12) - $8; Childen <5) - Free. Riders are encouraged to purchase advance tickets from area Cub Food stores or on-line at the State Fair web-site http://mnstatefair.org.
