MVTA State Fair Express

In 2008, the MVTA will offer express bus service to the Minnesota State Fair from both the Burnsville and Eagan Transit Stations.
 
Service is operating on all 12 days of the State Fair from the Burnsville Transit Station.  Weekdays, buses will first serve Burnsville High School (600 E. Highway 13), then the Transit Station.  Weekends, service will be from the Burnsville Transit Station only.

Service is operating on the weekends and Labor Day only from the Eagan Transit Station.  (Metro Transit will operate State Fair Express Bus Service from the Mall of America; the MVTA operates regular-route transit buses from Burnsville and Eagan to the Mall of America seven days per week.)

Weekday Buses (Monday through Friday)

Buses leave
Burnsville High School/Burnsville Transit Station every hour from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Buses leave the fairgrounds bus area every hour from 12:00 noon to 12:00 midnight.

Weekend Buses (Saturday, Sunday, Labor Day)

Buses leave the Burnsville and Eagan Transit Stations every half hour from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Buses leave the fairgrounds bus area every half hour from 12:00 noon to 12:00 midnight.

Round-trip fares remain $5 for all riders age 5 and over; fares are free for children 4 and under. The round-trip fare is collected at the Burnsville High School/Burnsville and Eagan Transit Stations (initial boarding location), and no fare is collected on the return trip. For this reason, there are no one-way fares. Please note also that Stored Value Cards, 31-Day Passes,
Metro Passes, GO-TO cards, and U-passes are NOT valid on State Fair services. Exact fare is required in the form of dollar bills and/or coins.

Hop On Transit and Save Day

Wednesday, Aug. 27 is expected to be "Hop On.  Transit Day."  State Fair bus riders pay only $3 for their ride and they will receive a transfer good for $2 of their State Fair admission.

Transfers will only be available for a discount on State Fair admission on  Hop On,   Transit Day. 

State Fair admissions prices are up this year:  Adults - $11; Seniors (65+) - $9; Children (5-12) - $8; Childen <5) - Free.  Riders are encouraged to purchase advance tickets from area Cub Food stores or on-line at the State Fair web-site http://mnstatefair.org.

The MVTA joined Metro Transit and SouthWest Metro Transit in celebrating "Hop On. Transit Day" at the Minnesota State Fair on August 31, 2005.
The children's coloring sheets were posted inside the tent at Carousel Park. MVTA's Hiawatha Steam Engine Bus. The daily State Fair Parade featured Metro Transit's bus driver by State Roadeo driver Jack Berner, SouthWest Metro's Trolley, and the MVTA bus wrapped to look like the original Hiawatha Steam Engine. Coloring sheets and Crossword puzzles were available for children to enjoy on "Hop On.  Transit Day." Metro Transit and SouthWest Metro Transit had buses on display for Fair-goers to tour. MVTA, Metro Transit and SouthWest Metro Transit offered "Hop On.  Transit Day" beads to State Fair attendees. MVTA 2005 Roadeo winner, Al Foster, participates in Flag-raising ceremony. Clang! Clang! Clang! went the SouthWest Metro Trolley in the State Fair Parade. Metro Transit led the bus parade in the 2006 State Fair parade. Flag Raising Representatives from the Living History Museum were roaming through Carousel Park in period dress talking about the glory days of passenger transportation. Winner of an MVTA "squishy" bus, this young man was happy to show off his prize. See all 13 images.
