Carpools The MVTA offers carpool services when traditional bus service does not meet riders' needs.
Carpools The MVTA is part of the regional car pool matching database, a service for those wishing to share a ride with one to three other people.
Forming carpool matches Passengers or drivers are entered into the database and matches formed based on:
- Time of commute
- Similar destinations and origins (or meeting places)
Callers are asked to provide their home (or meeting place) and work addresses; telephone numbers, and hours of work.
Starting the carpool If a match is generated, a list is distributed to each individual. Typically drivers ask riders to share in the cost of fuel and/or parking. Other carpools alternate driving tasks. It is up to each carpool to determine what works best.
Carpool perks Carpool participants qualify for the regional guaranteed ride home program; may use HOV lanes and meter bypass ramps; receive parking discounts in some circumstances; may participate in occasional promotional benefits.
Registration Register for carpooling on the Metro Transit web site, or call MVTA at (952)882-7500.
