No fares. No blarney. Celebrate St. Patricks Day responsibly and get a free ride on any Minnesota Valley Transit Authority bus or Metro Transit bus or train.

On Wednesdcay, March 17, you can ride free from 6 p.m. through the last scheduled trip on routes operated by Minnesota Valley Transit Authority, Metro Transit, the Met Council Regional Routes, and Plymouth Metrolink.

The Spring 2010 Edition of the MVTA Newsletter, News That Travels, is now posted on our web-site.   This edition focuses on the new Cedar Grove Transit Station, opening March 20, and many other activities at the MVTA.

Dakota County Regional Rail Authority to discuss plans for Cedar Ave. March 18

On March 18, Dakota County Regional Railroad Authority will hold an open house to provide updated information about transit services along the Cedar Avenue corridor, both now and into the future. The open house is from 4:00–7:30 p.m. in the atrium at the Dakota County Western Service Center, 14955 Galaxie Ave., Apple Valley. People will also have the opportunity to ask questions or share their comments and observations so they can be considered as the project moves forward.

MVTA Celebrates Drivers of the Year

The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) presented its 2009 Driver-of-the-Year awards at a recognition dinner following the MVTA Board meeting last night (Feb. 24).  In addition, a special award was presented to Lead Trainer Jesse Borchowiec for his exemplary efforts in the training of drivers.

The 2009 Driver-of-the-Year recipients are:

            Joni Hamilton, Schmitty & Sons Transit Full-time Driver; and Tony Carlisle, Schmitty & Sons Part-Time Driver.


Handicapped Spots Moved at Apple Valley Transit Station

In response to requests from riders, the MVTA has moved the handicapped parking spaces that were in the surface parking area at the Apple Valley Transit Station to under the deck on the first level, immediately south of the existing handicap spots.  We hope that riders will find these spaces more convenient.  Please note that the signs in the surface lot have been removed, but the spaces are still marked for handicapped vehicles.  We will repaint in the spring.

Cedar Grove Opens March 20, Maps, PDF Schedule Files Posted

The MVTA received great input and comments on the proposed changes for March in conjunction with the opening of the Cedar Grove Transit Station.  We listened carefully and have made a number of revisions to the draft.  The site is slated to open on Saturday, March 20.  PDF files of pocket schedules for March are also posted in the "Bus Route Information" section.

Buses Now Operate on Second, Marquette Avenues

All MVTA buses now travel into downtown Minneapolis on Second Avenue from 11th St.  MVTA buses will drop off at all E stops.  Buses depart from downtown Minneapolis on Marquette Avenue, picking up at all C stops.
