(Dec. 16, 2014) The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has again been awarded to the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The award was presented for the MVTA's 2013 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
"This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting," said MVTA Treasurer and Savage Councilmember Jane Victorey. "We proudly accept the award." Victorey added, "We have said this before, but the MVTA takes its fiduciary responsibilities very seriously." This is the fourth year the MVTA has received this recognition.
Lois Spear, MVTA's Finance Officer, received an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for the role she played in preparing the award-winning CAFR.
The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and to motivate potential reading of the CAFR. GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals.
