MVTA to launch new on-demand rideshare service in Savage

Beginning June 3 MVTA Connect available through smartphone app

Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) is proud to announce the debut of MVTA Connect, an on-demand public transit service in the Savage community. MVTA Connect delivers flexibility, value and more options for riders in the south metro.

Like other on-demand rideshare services, MVTA Connect allows riders to arrange a ride on a MVTA vehicle through a smartphone-based app called Microtransit or at The Microtransit app can be downloaded for free through Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Service begins June 3, 2019, and will run from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Fares are $4 and the driver can provide a free daily transfer to MVTA’s other fixed routes.

MVTA Connect will be available on a pilot basis in Savage and with service to the Burnsville Transit Station and the Burnsville Mall. Based on the pilot’s success, the service may expand throughout MVTA’s service area of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan and Rosemount in Dakota County, and Savage, Prior Lake and Shakopee in Scott County.

Once customers schedule a ride, they will receive a text notification from the driver assigned to pick them up. Riders can then track the arrival of their MVTA Connect vehicle through the real-time GPS service. During a ride, the MVTA driver may stop and pick up or drop off other riders. Drivers will provide curb-to-curb service within the Savage service area.

“We are excited to offer MVTA Connect service in the south metro. We are always working to identify new options to meet the needs of our riders,” said Luther Wynder, MVTA’s executive director. “Whether going to work, an appointment or to meet friends, the flexibility to be able to quickly schedule a ride is something our riders have told us they appreciate. The app is easy to navigate, and the service connects riders with other MVTA fixed routes. We will strive to find innovative solutions through a variety of service offerings to our customers.”
