Fare collection resumes in region on Saturday, Aug. 1

Since the onset of COVID-19, MVTA’s primary focus has been implementing measures on buses and at transit facilities to do everything possible to protect the health and safety of our customers and employees.

That safety focus will continue moving forward as the region resumes fare collection on Aug. 1.

Make it Touch Free!

  • MVTA encourages customers to use Go-To Cards when possible as fare collection resumes Saturday, Aug. 1.

  • Go-To Card machines are available outside at Apple Valley Transit Station, Burnsville Transit Station and at locations throughout the metro area. Go-To Cards can also be purchased online at https://store.metrotransit.org/

Safety measures already in place

  • To protect customers and drivers, partitions have been installed on buses between the driver and the fare box.

  • MVTA has adopted recommendations from the CDC on enhanced cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting procedures on buses. Face masks are required on buses as a result of a state executive order. Research has shown that use of face coverings can greatly reduce the risk of infection when combined with other prevention efforts such as social distancing and hand hygiene, according to the governor’s order.

  • Air filters are changed daily on the buses daily.

  • The number of customers on buses are limited to comply with social distancing guidelines and allow for adequate spacing.

  • MVTA transit stations and park and ride facilities remain closed to limit congregating.

  • Paper products and pocket schedules have been removed from buses to reduce material handling. Schedules are available online at mvta.com.

Customer safety

Customers are urged to do their part to maintain health and safety for everyone.

  • Comply with the requirement to wear face coverings.

  • Limit touching of surfaces and use Go-To Cards for fare payment when possible.

  • Maintain distance between you and others.

  • Limit talking while riding the bus.

  • Exit from the rear door when possible.
