PM Delays Continue in Downtown Minneapolis
As our Riders are aware, we continue to experience significant delays traveling south on Marquette Avenue in the afternoons. Southbound 'first-run' trips typically begin on time at Gateway Ramp. However, during the afternoon rush hour, cross-traffic blocks intersections along Marquette. Buses are not legally permitted to enter an intersection unless able to fully clear it. At times, buses are waiting up to 3 or 4 light cycles to be able to do this. Buses are then delayed moving through Minneapolis, and the buses that return to Minneapolis to begin 2nd- and 3rd-run trips begin later than scheduled.
Weather, road construction, and traffic incidents add to the already-significant delays. Days/evenings when major events (i.e. baseball games) take place downtown, delays are compounded significantly. There have been several days already this season that travel time from Gateway Ramp to the Convention Center takes over 60 minutes.
Please know that we are aware that this situation is frustrating for everyone involved, and that our bus operators are doing the best they can to navigate through the Downtown Corridor. We have been working with the City of Minneapolis to seek solutions and improvements. We are currently seeking funding for traffic control assistance and also working with a new vendor to provide real-time bus location information to our riders.
In the meantime, we greatly appreciate your patience.
