State Fair: Navigating Burnsville Transit Station with I-35W Construction

MVTA will be providing State Fair service from three locations: Eagan Transit Station, Burnsville Transit Station, and Southbridge Crossings Park & Ride in Shakopee. All three stations will have service beginning at 7 a.m. on all days of the fair.
Due to construction on I-35W, access to Burnsville Transit Station will be impacted. MVTA advises riders using Burnsville Transit Station to expect additional time arriving and departing the station area.
- I-35W is reduced to two lanes in each direction near Highway 13.
- Cliff Road’s I-35W underpass is currently closed.
- There is currently single lane traffic on Highway 13 between Nicollet Avenue and County Road 5 in both directions.
- Multiple exit directions at the I-35W and Highway 13 interchange are closed.
- Burnsville Parkway bridge over I-35W is currently closed.
Getting to Burnsville Transit Station
- Drivers coming to Burnsville Transit from north of the Minnesota River after noon tomorrow are advised to use Cedar Avenue to Highway 13 to get to Burnsville Transit Station.
- Beginning Friday, August 22, through the end of the State Fair, drivers coming to Burnsville Transit Station southbound on I-35W will be able to exit at the Highway 13 exit ramp.
- Drivers coming to Burnsville Transit northbound on I-35W will be able to exit at both Burnsville Parkway and Highway 13.
For riders coming from the West of I-35W…
- Riders may take County Road 42 eastbound to Nicollet Avenue northbound to arrive at the station.
- Highway 13 will be open, but expect delays.
Departing Burnsville Transit
When departing Burnsville Transit Station, MVTA advises drivers to take a right onto Nicollet Avenue to avoid congestion at Nicollet Avenue and Highway 13.
After taking a right on Nicollet Avenue, drivers can connect to Cliff Road.
Leaving north on I-35W
- Drivers who want to go north on I-35W should take a left at Cliff Road to access the interstate.
Leaving in other directions
- Drivers who want to access Highway 13 or I-35E and I-35W south are encouraged to take a right on Cliff Road to connect with County Road 11.
