2025 was a year of growth, momentum, and exciting milestones for Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA). As MVTA continued to serve and connect communities across the south metro, the agency celebrated new opportunities, strong partnerships, and memorable moments with riders and the region. Below are just a few snapshots highlighting the successes of 2025.

To provide transformative transportation services to those who live, work, and play in our communities.

Establish MVTA as the most connected transit agency through service, innovation, technology, and partnerships.

Local Forward is MVTA’s initiative to evaluate bus service using community-focused feedback and detailed ridership data to better align routes with local needs. In January 2025, MVTA Connect expanded to Shakopee and Prior Lake.

Ridership on routes serving the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, saw an 18% increase.

In the fall, Route 420 was updated to include the Dakota County Technical College and other key destinations, resulting in a 25% ridership increase.

MVTA formalized a partnership with MV Ventures in Eagan to add airport service to Route 436. The enhancement improved connectivity for workers, travelers, and Eagan residents, leading to a 65.7% increase in ridership.

MVTA is dedicated to sustainable transit with goals to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and foster healthy communities. By creating a framework focused on the environmental, social, and economic benefits of sustainability, we can strive to cut annual building consumption in half by 2030, and achieve operational carbon neutrality by 2050, and support the statewide goal of 20% VMT reduction by 2050. Through our sustainability plan, we are working to create a cleaner, greener Minnesota that is connected through public transit.
