MVTA service schedules adjust on March 16

MVTA’s March 16 service change will welcome back the 4FUN route and includes some express trip additions and reductions for systemwide efficiency. Below are the routes that will see schedule modifications effective on March 16.

4FUN route expanding service in 2024

MVTA’s seasonal 4FUN route is back with more service in 2024 to get riders to major entertainment venues in the south metro! Beginning on Saturday, March 16, 4FUN will operate Thursdays through Sundays.  In addition to stops at Mystic Lake Casino, Canterbury Park, and Mall of America, stops have been added at the Twin Cities Premium Outlet Mall and Omry Apartments at Canterbury. Valleyfair stops will re-open when the park opens for the season. The 4FUN route also stops at Burnsville Transit Station and Marschall Road Transit Station in Shakopee to provide additional local and regional connections to the top entertainment destinations in the south metro. 4FUN operates with an Express, non-rush hour fare: $2.50 for adults; $1 for seniors (65+) and youth (6-12); $1 for Limited Mobility (must be qualified); and free for children 5 and under and veterans with service-connected ID.

The following service updates will also take effect on Saturday, March 16.

Routes 460, 477, 490, 493 – Gateway Ramp in Minneapolis will be added as a stop for all northbound trips on these express routes.

Express trips added on Routes 472, 475, 490

All trips on Route 472 now stop at Rosemount Transit Station, Palomino Hills Park and Ride, and Blackhawk Park and Ride going to and coming back from Downtown Minneapolis. The 8:15 a.m. trip from Blackhawk Park and Ride now also serves Rosemount Transit Station at 7:53 a.m. and Palomino Hills Park and Ride at 8:08 a.m. The 5:41 p.m. trip from Downtown Minneapolis now stops at Palomino Hills Park and Ride at 6:20 p.m. and at Rosemount Transit Station at 6:36 p.m.

An additional morning trip has been added on Route 475 to serve  the University of Minnesota based on high ridership demand. The new northbound trip will depart Apple Valley Transit Station at 8:35 a.m. and stop at Cedar Grove Transit Station at 8:45 a.m. before continuing directly to University stops at Coffman Union, Oak Street and University Avenue, and Ridder Arena.

A Route 490 southbound trip at 12:50 p.m. will be converted to a University pattern and serve riders traveling from the University of Minnesota to Southbridge Crossings Park and Ride in Shakopee and downtown Prior Lake.

Express trips cut based on lower ridership

Express trips will be cut on lower ridership trips to improve system efficiency.   

Route 460 – Burnsville Transit Station to Minneapolis. Three northbound 460 trips will be removed at 6:23 a.m., 6:37 a.m. and 8:18 a.m. Alternative Route 460 northbound trips that remain active include: 6:10 a.m., 6:29 a.m., 6:44 a.m. 8:08 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Two southbound 460 trips have been removed at 5:02 p.m. and 5:21 p.m. Alternative Route 460 southbound trips that remain active include 4:50 p.m., 5:10 p.m., and 5:35 p.m.

Route 465 – Burnsville TransitStationto Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. One northbound 465 trip has been removed at 7:06 p.m. Alternative Route 465 northbound trips that remain active include 5:16 p.m. Other regional connections are also available for later trips to the University and Downtown Minneapolis. One southbound 465 trip has been removed at 7:07 a.m. Alternative Route 465 southbound trips that remain active include 8 a.m.  Other regional connections are also available for earlier trips.

Route 470 – Eagan Transit Station to Minneapolis. The 470 northbound trips at 5:50 and 6:14 a.m. have been combined into one trip departing Eagan Transit Station at 6:05 a.m. Two southbound 470 trips have been removed at 5:43 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. Alternative Route 470 southbound trips include 5:02 p.m. Other regional connections are also available for later trips.

Route 475 – Apple Valley Transit Station/Cedar Grove Transit Station to the Minnesota Zoo, Minneapolis, and the University of Minnesota. Two northbound 475 trips have been removed at 6:30 a.m. and 1:49 p.m. Alternative Route 475 southbound trips that remain active include 7:03 a.m., 12:49 p.m. and 2:49 p.m. Other regional connections are also available for trips missed. One southbound 475 trip has been removed at 8:04 a.m. Alternative Route 475 southbound trips that remain active include 10:05 a.m. Other regional connections are also available for earlier trips.

Route 477 – Apple Valley Transit Station to Minneapolis. Two southbound 477 trips have been removed at 3:47 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Alternative Route 477 southbound trips that remain active include 3:40 p.m., 3:55 p.m., and 6 p.m. Other regional connections are also available for later trips.

Route 480 – Burnsville Transit Station/Apple Valley Transit Station/Palomino Hills Park and Ride/Blackhawk Park and Ride/Eagan Transit Station to St. Paul. One 480 northbound B pattern trip will be removed at 5:13 a.m. Alternative Route 480 northbound trips that remain active include 5:54 a.m. One southbound A pattern 480 trip has been removed at 5:33 p.m. and one southbound B pattern 480 trip has been removed at6:05 p.m. Alternative Route 480 southbound trips that remain active include 4:39 p.m. (A) and 5 p.m. (B).

Route 480, 484, 489 downtown St. Paul detour – A detour will begin March 18 affecting southbound Routes 480, 484, and 489. Stops will be moved from 6th Street to 7th street in St. Paul due to construction that will last through the fall. Route 490 – Prior Lake/ Southbridge Crossings Park and Ride to Minneapolis/University of Minnesota. The 490 trips at 5:43 a.m. and 6:10 a.m. have been combined to one trip at 6:00 a.m. This trip will serve both Downtown Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota. Six southbound 490 trips have been removed at noon, 2:00 p.m., 6 p.m., 7:35 p.m., 8:35 p.m. and 9:35 p.m. The 12:50 p.m. trip has been changed to a U pattern to serve the University of Minnesota. Alternative Route 490 southbound trips that remain active include 12:50 p.m., 3:11 p.m., 4:10 p.m., 4:26 p.m., 4:35 p.m., 5:20 p.m. and 5:35 p.m.

Route 493 – Marschall Road Transit to Minneapolis. The 5:43 a.m. and 6:18 a.m. northbound 493 trips have been combined into one trip departing Marschall Road Transit Station at 6:05 a.m. One southbound 493 trip has been removed at 5:35 p.m. (Alternative Route 493 southbound trip that remains active is 4:35 p.m. Other regional connections are also available for later trips.)

Route 498 – Marschall Road Transit to Southdale will no longer be running due to the conclusion of grant funding and limited ridership.

Routes 465/475/490 – Run time adjustments have been made between the University of Minnesota and downtown Minneapolis, and between downtown Minneapolis and origin stations for accuracy and consistency. See trip schedules for time adjustments.

Routes 460, 465, 470, 472, 475, 477, 480, 493 – Run time adjustments were made on these routes to better reflect trip times, specifically to improve information at stops where buses cannot hold along express routes. See trip schedules for time adjustments.

Route 497 – Shakopee local route. A new pattern (H) has been created to serve St. Francis Hospital in both eastbound and westbound directions on weekdays due to rider demand. All weekday 497 trips will have the H pattern indicator. Eastbound trips will continue to be the only trips serving St. Francis Hospital on weekends. The 6:36 a.m. and 8:36 a.m. westbound trips have been moved to 7:39 a.m. and 9:39 a.m. to provide better transfers with westbound route 499 a.m. trips. The eastbound 497 trips at 7:04 a.m. and 9:04 a.m. have also been moved to 6:04 a.m. and 8:04 a.m. to provide easier transfers to route 499 eastbound a.m. trips. Westbound trip start times have also been adjusted by 3-6 minutes on weekdays. Check timetables for more information.

Route 499 – Shakopee local route. A new pattern (H) will serve St. Francis Hospital on weekdays. All 499 trips on weekdays will be stopping at St. Francis Hospital. Weekend 499 service will continue to not serve St. Francis Hospital. Route 499 also has added a stop at Omry Apartments next to Canterbury Park on Winners Circle Drive.

Orange Link – Apple Valley Transit Station/Burnsville Transit Station/Blackhawk Park and Ride. A northbound stop at Burnhaven Drive and Southcross Drive NE has been removed due to redundancy. The stops at Southcross Drive at Buck Hill Road NE and Southcross Drive at Buck Hill Road SEhave been removed due to operational concerns. These stops have been moved to  Grand Avenue at Southcross Drive NE and  Grand Avenue at Southcross Drive NW.

Route 446 – Eagan to 46th Street LRT. The stop at Corporate Center Drive at Corporate Center Curve has become a timepoint on the route.

Route 447 – Apple Valley Transit Station/Burnsville Center/ Savage Park and Ride/ Prior Lake/ Mystic Lake Casino. Routing at Burnsville Center adjusted. An eastbound stop has been added at Burnhaven Drive at Executive Boulevard SW corner and a westbound stop has been moved from Burnhaven Drive at Executive Boulevard NE corner to Burnhaven Drive at Executive Boulevard SE corner.

Route 480 – Burnsville Transit/Apple Valley Transit/ Palomino Hills/ Blackhawk Park and Ride/Eagan Transit Station to St. Paul. Fixed downtown stops on 480B northbound pattern have been adjusted to be consistent with the 480A pattern. Added stops are at Smith Avenue opposite the Smith Avenue Ramp; 5th Street at West 7th Street SE corner; 5th Street at Washington S corner. Buses were already stopping at these locations, but these stops will now be actively shown on the MVTA app and trip information.

Route 484 – Rosemount Transit Station to St. Paul. Due to reconstruction on Kellogg Boulevard, a slight reroute has been made for 484 southbound for operational efficiency. The southbound stop has been removed on Cedar Street at 5th Street (before skyway) and will be replaced with a stop at 5th St at Minnesota Street SW Corner.
